Brian Kelly’s strange words come up about the season opener against Florida State.
As Notre Dame opened the 2021 season with a sloppy win over Kerry, Florida, the Notre Dame coach was interviewed by ESPN’s Katie George. he joked “We might have to execute the whole team after tonight.” A year later, George interviewed Kelly, who is now his coach. LSUsThis time it was the halftime of the Tigers match. FloridaKelly wasn’t happy with LSU’s first half performance and was trying to let everyone know.
The Tigers trailed 7-3 at halftime. During the second quarter, Flea gave up flickering touchdown, had Short field goal blocked When missed a puntWhen the Tigers took the field in the second half, George asked Kelly, “What’s your message?” he replied.
“I don’t think I could play worse. I mean, it’s my first game. Just bad execution. We made our players understand that they can’t mess around with football on punts the way we do.” But it was a good stop.A few offensive miscues where we stalled the drive. We couldn’t leave the pitch on third down. They just got free and they’re playing. Now we have to overcome some adversity in the second half and grow as a soccer team.”

Kelly didn’t get much sympathy from college football fans.
Are there worse coaches at halftime interviews? At least he wasn’t threatening mass executions… yet. #Brian Kelly #LSU https://t.co/Oq8hfne19B

Surprisingly, Kelly’s message didn’t immediately resonate with the Tigers.
After receiving the second-half kickoff, the Seminoles drove 68 yards, resulting in a field goal. After LSU went three-and-out, Florida State’s offense struck again when quarterback Jordan Travis and receiver Ontalia Wilson connected on their second touchdown pass from 27 yards. Tigers edge rusher Ali Gay was also ejected on that play after a Bratan targeting foul.
The Tigers responded with a touchdown drive of their own to cut the deficit, but Florida State soon responded with another touchdown to go up 24-10. So I doubt Kelly liked the second half more than the first.
