USC has long been expected to break into the top four this week if it passes the latest tests. 15 Notre Dame. It was the Trojans’ second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent, currently in the Pac-12 championship game against No. 11 Utah, and has been in CFP for the past six seasons since that meeting. It will never be the first team to participate (2016) -17). Utah was the only team to beat USC this year, giving the Trojans a chance to overcome that negative data point directly in the final week of the season.

LSU was the center of attention in this week’s rankings, losing to a Texas A&M team entering their third game of the season with just four wins. Analysis by Bowl expert Jerry Palm

Overall, there were no surprises at the top of the CFP ranking. The only question that needed to be answered was which team he would be fifth in. This is important because the Trojans are likely to drop out of his CFP if USC takes his second loss against Utah for his Pac-12 title. Conflict with Ohio.

LSU, Clemson and Oregon’s losses sucked a lot of the drama out of the CFP race.

Some question TCU, but look at which team sits in 10th place. This is the Horned his Frogs opponent in the Big 12 championship game in Kansas. This shows the level of respect the CFP selection committee has for the Wildcats. Also, of his three undefeated teams, TCU will face the top team for the league title.

Ranking is not only important for selecting CFP participants. CFP participants often play a role in selecting teams for the New Year’s Six Games. Rankings can be used to pick a replacement bowl for losing conference champions to CFP. It also determines the large spots.

For example, Georgia’s opponents in the SEC Championship Game, LSU, were hit by the Commission after losing to a dying Texas A&M. The Tigers are down to his 14th place and out of selection for New Year 6 games. LSU’s only chance is to win their way to the Sugar Bowl. Had the Tigers defeated the Aggies, the SEC could have put his four teams into New Year’s Six.

Penn State is likely to benefit from an LSU dropout. The Nittany Lions are currently in eighth place and are well positioned to play in the Cotton Bowl.
