2022 ACC/Big Ten Challenge schedule: Duke vs. Ohio State, UNC vs. Indiana lead rankings of each game

As one of the most true signs that the college basketball off-season is coming to an end sooner than expected, ACC and Big Ten have stopped playing the ACC / Big Ten Challenge game next season. All 14 games will be played for 3 days (November 28-30) and will serve as an appetizer for conference play in both Power Leagues.

As always, matchups load cheerfully, but in 2022 they will be backloaded. Minnesota vs. Virginia Tech and Pitt vs. Northwestern will kick off on the first day of the event. Ohio State University-Duke and Indiana-North Carolina are one of the third day headliners. Sandwiched between them are several underrated matches, including Louisville-Maryland and Virginia-Michigan. It’s difficult to set up a fair match, but this year it should be fairly even.

ACC has a decisive advantage in the ongoing series that began in 1999-winning 12 of -23 events, tying 3 of them and losing 8-but Big Ten It is progressing quickly and steadily. Three of the last events were won by Big Ten, and 11 of the last 13 were tied or full wins in the league. ACC has only won the first 10 times (!) From the start of the event, and then only twice in 2016 and 2017. Oh drama!

To prepare for this year’s challenge, we will rank all 14 games from the most attractive to the least attractive. Ranking of each team derived from CBS Sports Top 25 (and 1)..

Duke fell to 71-66 on the road to Ohio last season with his first defeat of the season (and only pre-January defeats). Not only set as Duke’s revenge game, this is one of the first marquee matchups in the Cameron Indoor Stadium of John Scheyer, the new Blue Devils coach who takes over the program from the legendary Mike Krzyzewski. It also works as a stadium. The talent level of this game, combined with the guarantee of the atmosphere of the elite college hoop game, ranked first in my ranking at UNC-Indiana.

UNC-A harsh call to push Indiana to second place on this list-The dominant national runner-up at UNC to take on the rejuvenated Blue Blood in Indiana in the cathedral, a parliamentary hall-but this is me Above all, skepticism about Indiana. Regaining Trace Jackson Davis, Xavier Johnson, Race Thompson and more is important, but much of this core last season was almost inadequate to become an NCAA tournament team. Jalen Hood-Schifino may be a swingpiece that helps IU grow from a fringe tournament team to a fringe big ten candidate. Suppose Jackson-Davis continues to grow as one of the greatest talents in college games.

Purdue is a ranked team and FSU is not ranked, but we can predict FSU-3, which is the team’s premature betting line. Seminoles are famous for being tough at home under Leonard Hamilton. They gathered a really great freshman class that combined high school and transfer. This, coupled with the return of Caleb Mills and Matthew Cleveland, can make this a sneaky and wonderful match. But Padu isn’t lacking in talent, and even after losing Jaden Ivey and Trevion Williams, the Zach Edey-led team is essentially a team that presents a major post-mismatch problem. is.

It’s higher than you might expect from the name, but I love this match and I think it should be pretty close. Steve Pikiell took over at Rutgers, so the two teams face each other 1-1. Miami had a dramatic off-season to maintain Isaiah Wong and buy Nigel Pack, based on a roster that peaked in March last year.

Both Virginia and Michigan have been down for years on their own standards last season, so this should be a great Litmus test to see where both are standing in front of the league. Virginia returns Kihei Clark and Jayden Gardner as part of Returner’s long list, and Michigan aims to revive Hunter Dickinson and replace the remaining work with the original five-star Caleb Houstan and Musadia Bate. ..

The game doesn’t have the same luster as Blake Wesley, Gabriel Brown, and Max Christie are back, but Tom Izo vs. Mike Bray is usually a pre-order. Seeing how the young guns JJ Sterling (5-star ND signer) and Cajon Caller (4-star MSU signer) fight on a big stage is two talented people in a great environment. It will be a well-instructed team.

Illinois has consistently been in the Top 20 program under Blood Underwood, but will be in the buildback season after losing Coffey Cockburn, Andre Crubero, Jacob Grandison, Alfonso Plummer, and Trent Frazier. There is a possibility. But depending on the method it may not be Texas Tech Transfer Terence Shannon Jr. and his development. In any case, this should be a solid game where Jim Boeheim leads Syracuse to a noisy atmosphere.

One of the first major tests for New Maryland coach Kevin Willard after a long and successful stint Seton Hall.. Not an ideal setup-Louisville has never lost at home in an ACC / Big Ten Challenge game-But Cardinals has also debuted his first year coach at Kenny Pain.

After losing a lot of NBA talent in Johnny Davis, Wisconsin and Jay Claravia and Alondes Williams at Wake Forest University, this paper game lacks real juice. But this could be a great platform for some potential breakout stars to mark them. A direct confrontation between Wisconsin’s Chucky Hepburn and Wake Forest’s call forwarding Tyrie Appleby could be a high-quality viewing.

Pennsylvania State University security guard Jayren Pickett and the Clemson team, who lost a lot of talent on the back court, quietly have the star power needed for the Nittany Lions to participate in bubble conversations next season. Competing can be a great place for him to shine. Clemson is also vulnerable in the home court later in this ACC / Big Ten Challenge series.

Remember the Virginia Tech Hunter Kattoa who blasted Duke 31 points in last season’s ACC tournament? He will be featured on Hokies next to Justyn Mutts this year after losing Keve Aluma. It should be an interesting match against Minnesota’s Mish Mash unit, including the former 5-star Dawson Garcia and Jamison Battle.

After losing Keegan Murray to the NBA, Iowa is about to rebuild behind his brother Chris Murray, who has the potential to break out of Hawkeye from 2022 to 23. He will be the main attraction of the game as he helps lead Iowa to the Georgia Institute of Technology team, which is likely to be heavily dependent on the transfer of Reims Terry and Jabon Franklin.

These two teams faced each other in both 2019 and 2020, and Pitt participated in both games. Recently, he has won 71 to 70. Both head coaches (Pitt’s Jeff Capel and Northwestern’s Chris Collins) may face stricter surveillance this year than in recent years. The northwest hasn’t had a winning season in the last few years, and after Capel took over, Pitt hasn’t yet reached a season of over .500.

This is not profiled as a particularly attractive match. Nebraska was the worst team in the Big Ten last season, and Boston University was one of the worst teams in the ACC. He defeated Bryce McGowens to the NBA Draft and stabbed the Cornhuskers. Boston University can make the Eagles (and this game) interesting by returning three key scorers from last year, including Makai Ashton Langford. .. .. perhaps.
