St. Peter, Minnesota (September 22) – Gustavus Adolphus College will be hosting the 2022 ITA Midwest Regional Championships this weekend in St. Peter, Minnesota. The tournament runs from Friday 23 September to Monday 26 September and will feature many of the region’s top teams at multiple locations in St. He Peter and the surrounding area. The tournament will start playing at 9:00 am on Friday.
At the western end of the Gustavus campus, the Swanson Indoor Tennis Center serves as the headquarters for the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, which also hosts matches at the adjacent Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex.
The ITA Regional Championship singles and doubles champions advance to the ITA National Small College Championship. The ITA National Small College Championship will consist of his eight regional champions and his eight runners-up (and/or overall selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, and junior/community colleges. More than 8,000 of his student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, juniors and community colleges compete in one of his 85 USTA/ITA Regional Championships across the country.
The ITA National Small College Championships began in 1986 and each year, each of the ITA’s four small college divisions (NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, and junior/community colleges) recognize national champions in men’s and women’s singles and doubles. Decide. The ITA National Small College Championship is the only singles and doubles national championship event at the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels. It is also the only tournament with all levels of junior/community colleges (NJCAA Divisions I and III, California Division) participating. Singles and doubles champions at each division level compete to be the overall Super Bowl champion. The “Super Bowl” champion earns a wild card to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship for a chance to win the final event at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
As the governing body of college tennis, the ITA promotes both athletic and academic outcomes for the college tennis community. Founded in 1956 and based in Skillman, New Jersey, the ITA is the leader in numerous regional and national championships, the ITA College Eight Summer Circuit hosted by the USTA, and the ITA rankings of men’s and women’s tennis in the NCAA Divisions I and II.
