2022 John Deere Classic leaderboard, grades: J.T. Poston goes wire-to-wire to earn second victory on PGA Tour

JT Poston was a clear class in the 2022 John Deere Classic from start to finish as he won his second PGA Tour victory on Sunday. Poston, the third player in tournament history and a wire-to-wire success, was able to bring last week’s momentum from the TPC River Highlands to the TPC Deere Run.

Runner-up at the Travelers Championship, Poston opened the John Deere Classic in a 9-under-62 song in an ideal way. Without looking back, the 29-year-old signed the 65-67-69 round. His closest followers, Christian Bezidenhout and Emiliano Grillo, finished 3 strokes under 21.

Despite having a three-stroke lead into the final round and winning in the margin above, there were some hairy moments in his opening nine. After firing from the gate with three consecutive birdies, Poston started drinking water when he made back-to-back bogies on holes 5 and 6.

With a bitter par save in 7th place on par 3, he continued 9 consecutive pars, letting other players attack the pins and stabilizing the ship while coasting. Poston added another birdie on the 17th of par 5 for safety and extended the lead back to where the day started.

Poston was calm and calm, and did not blink in the face of adversity. Seeing his lead shrink to just one stroke on the inside nine, he remains immovable and his hard work rewards will be featured on the PGA Tour over the next few years. Not only does he participate in tournaments such as the Masters and Players Championship, he also wins the 150th Open in just two weeks. Just 14 days ago, Poston, who ranked 112th in the FedEx Cup, became 22nd in this season’s race and became one of the game giants. Grade: A +

Here’s a breakdown of the rest of the leaderboards for the 2022 John Deere Classic

T2. Emiliano Grillo (-18): It was a tough season as the Argentines missed 12 cuts in the 23rd start. But more enthusiastically, Grillo made six of his last seven cuts and sprinkled some quality shows at the RBC Canadian Open and Memorial Tournaments. He was able to stroke Poston’s lead back nine, but his mysterious bogey on the 14th of a short par 4 would be attributed to his shortcomings. As a comfort award, Grillo climbed 62nd in the FedEx Cup to 85th, punching a ticket to the 150th Open at St Andrews. Instep species

T4. Chris Gotterup (-17): The Haskins Award winner was great at the debut of John Deere Classic. Participating in the tournament through a sponsor exemption, Gotterup wrote to the tournament committee and his request was granted. With this result, he entered the Korn / Ferry Tour Finals and did much the same in the Open Championship as the top three finishers in the Top 10 booked a trip to St Andrews. While Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau kicks started their career with a win at the TPC Deere Run, Gotterup did the same without the hardware to show it.

“Yes, I’ll further verify that I belong here,” Gotterup said. “Honestly, there wasn’t the best this week. It was a great hit, but it didn’t quite work until it got off at once. So you pick things up along the way. Yeah, I’m my experience. Use as follows: Puerto Rico, and the last couple. ” Instep species

T6. Denny McCarthy (-16): McCarthy felt like a perfect storm coming in this week, but he didn’t intend to do so in the end. The University of Virginia product, a member of the penultimate group on Sunday, is heading in the wrong direction early in the round and may be kicking itself in doing so. Despite his recent disappointment, McCarthy was still in the middle of the best season of his career and successfully rebounded from the cut he missed at the Travelers Championship. He shows that he can participate in these birdie fests because he often describes himself as a “grinder,” but the Memorial Tournament and the Top 10 finish at the US Open are his first wins on a more difficult golf course. May suggest. Grade: B +

T16. Sahith Theegala (-12): He almost missed the cut, but showed some determination after opening the John Deere Classic with 3 over 74. Carding 65 consecutive rounds and ending his week with 68, Teagala was in the top 20 by the end of the tournament. As a result of this effort, the Rookie of the Year candidate was absent from the last weekend of the Players Championship in March and made 11 straight cuts himself. He can sometimes be unstable, but there are ways to smooth out these peaks and valleys during the tournament process. With two podiums in 2022, the runner-up at the Travelers Championship, it’s only a matter of time before his first victory on the PGA Tour. Grade: B
