The Major League Baseball postseason kicked off Friday with a brand new Wild Card series. MLB will adopt a 12-team playoff format for the first time in his 2022, with eight teams competing in a best-of-three wild card series. The Guardians, Phillies, Mariners and Padres all led the series 1-0 in Friday’s wildcard round. The Rays, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Mets will try to keep their season on Saturday.
The top two teams in each league (the Astros and Yankees in the American League and the Dodgers and Braves in the National League) will receive byes and begin their postseason journey in the LDS Round next week. Once the team clears the Wild Card Series, the playoffs will look more like their traditional selves. Best of 5 Division Series, Best of Seven League Championship Series, and Best of Seven World Series.
