3 games to watch in Week 2 of the women’s college basketball season

Week 2 of the women’s basketball season has begun. There are some games to watch this weekend.

Sunday includes an Elite Eight rematch, a Top 2 rematch, and a potential upset.

No. 1 South Carolina vs. No. 2 Stanford

The two top-ranked teams in the country will go head-to-head on national television on Sunday. There’s a lot to get excited about, like the Aaliyah Boston vs. Cameron Brink frontcourt battle. There’s also a backcourt battle between Haley Jones and Jia Cook. You don’t want to miss this.

Stanford won the national title by defeating South Carolina by one point (66-65) in the 2021 Final Four. After his Four heartbreak in the Finals, Gamecock again scored his 65 in last season’s rematch. However, this time he beat Stanford 65-61 to claim the win by as much as 18 points. That loss at home may be on the mind of Tara his Vandelbier squad, which hosts the No. 1 team.

No. 5 UConn vs. No. 10 NC State

This Top 10 matchup is a rematch from last season’s Elite Eight. That double overtime game quickly became a classic as the Huskies advanced to his 14th straight Final Four.

However, Sunday’s game looks a little different. He graduated four of his five Wolfpack starters, with only Jakia Brown-Turner returning from his first five. Paige Bueckers hit the wire with a very impactful clutch her shot to lift her UConn in March. She’s out for the season after a torn ACL.

This matchup may get overlooked on the schedule, but if you keep an eye on it, it could be a big upset. In last season’s tournament, Belmont defeated Oregon in his 12-for-5 seed upset.

And the Bruins may not be able to beat the top seed. The Bruins led by his 71-70 with six seconds remaining, a costly foul stopped what would be the biggest early-season upset.

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes avoided an upset by defeating Drake 92-86 in overtime. He has one more game before Iowa hosts the Belmonts on Sunday.
