After a wild weekend of Super Regional Action, Omaha Field is set up.
This is how all eight Super Regionals were done, and how their College World Series spots were earned.
Knoxville Super Regional
To Omaha: Notre Dame
How it happened: Notre Dame took first place across Tennessee and became the first team to win the Road Series at Knoxville this season. Friday’s Fighting Irish jumped on volunteers for an 8-6 victory before Saturday’s Tennessee rebounded for a 12-4 victory even in the series. After Tennessee took a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning of Sunday’s finale, home runs by David Ramanna and Jack Branigan gave Notre Dame a lead. The Irish won 7-3 and made their first foray into Omaha since 2002. This is the third time. Tennessee has been ranked number one overall for the third consecutive year to finish the NCAA tournament in Super Regional, ending the season with a record of 57-9.
Stanford Super Regional
To Omaha: Stanford
How it happened: Stamford was super regional and not easy against Connecticut, but the Cardinal is heading to the College World Series for the second year in a row. UConn won Saturday’s opening round 13-12 after leading 9-0 with Pacific-12 Pitcher of the Year Alex Williams. Stanford started a late comeback, but he recorded the ninth six runs and didn’t stop the rest of the weekend’s score. After winning the series 8-2, the Cardinal put Monday’s finale out of reach with four innings of six runs, winning 10-5 with the clincher. Stanford will return to Omaha for the first time in a series of seasons since he appeared at the event five times in a row from 1999 to 2003.
Corvalis Super Regional
To Omaha: Auburn
How it happened: After scoring 51 runs in Auburn Regional last week, the Tigers did it on the mound this weekend. Auburn’s bullpen beat Oregon State University to one run in 8.1 innings in the opening round on Saturday, winning 7-5. Beaver bounced off ace Cooper Helpe on the mound on Sunday, winning 4-3. However, Auburn had an advantage in Game 3 as he kept Oregon State University to just three hits with a 4-3 victory. The Tigers, who were voted last in the category by pre-season SEC coaches, are back in the College World Series for the first time in three years.
Blacksburg Super Regional
To Omaha: Oklahoma
How it happened: Oklahoma has been a road warrior for the past month, followed this week in Blacksburg. Oklahoma defeated Virginia Tech in three games for four consecutive weeks and entered Omaha for the first time since 2010. Friday’s Snurs won a tight match 5-4 and Hawkeys won 14-8. Even in the series. But at the finale it was all Oklahoma. The Suners won 11-2, keeping the Hawkeys down to two hits. Oklahoma has been 11-3 in the last four weeks, winning the Big 12 tournament and securing the 11th College World Series berth in program history.
College Station Super Regional
To Omaha: Texas A & M
How it happened: Texas A & M swept Louisville at College Station, but both games were tight. After lagging behind in the opening round on Friday, Aggie’s scored three runs in the last three innings, winning 5-4. In the second match, A & M erased the initial deficit twice, then opened the scoring in the seventh inning and won 4-3. Aggie’s will be heading to Omaha for the first time since 2017, doing so in the first season of Jim Schlossnagle’s program.
Hatisberg Super Regional
To Omaha: Mississippi
How it happened: Oremis wiped out southern Mississippi in a dominant way. The rebels won the opening round on Saturday 10-0 and finished the series 5-0 on Sunday. They are the third team in Super Regional history to throw a series of shutouts and keep the Golden Eagles to just seven hits. For the first time since 2014, Ole Miss, one of the last four teams in the Field of 64, has advanced to the sixth College World Series in program history.
Chapel Hill Super Regional
To Omaha: Arkansas
How it happened: Arkansas swept North Carolina and advanced to the College World Series for the third time in four seasons. Razorbucks got off to a strong start with right-handed Connor Norland, scoring 4-1 in the opening round on Saturday. The two teams overcame two weather delays on Sunday and were trapped in a pitcher duel. After UNC (playing as a visitor) came forward in the ninth inning, Arkansas went back to the bottom of the ninth inning to win a 4-3 victory in the Brady Slavens RBI single. After suffering an intolerable loss in Super Regional a year ago, Razorbucks returns to Omaha.
Green Building Super Regional
To Omaha: Texas
How it happened: Texas, ranked number one in the pre-season Top 25, is heading for the College World Series, but East Carolina hasn’t made it easy. Pirates defeated Longhorns ace Pete Hansen 13-7 in the opening round on Friday to maintain a five-run lead in the seventh round on Saturday. But from that point on, it was all Texas. The Longhorns started a season-saving comeback, winning 9-8 on Saturday and forcing a third match. On Sunday, they recorded four runs at the top of the first inning before the long weather delay, but did not let go of the gas on the way to the 11-1 victory. There was a seventh ECU loss at this stage of the NCAA tournament.
Notre Dame, No. 1 Tennessee Upset by the Falls Shy of the College World Series
On Sunday, Notre Dame defeated 1st Tennessee in the decisive third game of Knoxville Super Regional, ending the volunteer season.
