There are still a few weeks left before Amaka Agugua-Hamilton officially debuts as the head coach of Virginia’s women’s basketball program. Still, just a few months into the job, she’s already leading an amazing turnaround for a program that had won only five games in total over the past two seasons. She revitalized the UVA Women’s Basketball Program with some big wins on the recruitment trail this summer, including securing the commitment of new players.
ESPN updated HoopGurlz Recruitment Ranking Committed This Week and UVA Kimora Johnson is currently a five-star recruit and the 24th-best player in the nation in her 2023 class. announced her commitment to Virginia On Sept. 12, he was previously rated a four-star prospect and the 30th overall recruit in the 2023 class, according to ESPN. Charlottesville’s St. Anne’s Star from Belfield, his guard Johnson, had offers from around 50 programs, but he decided to stay home and focus on the Cavaliers.
Johnson was named Virginia Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 21.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 4.5 steals as a junior to lead St. Anne’s Bellfield to the state championship game last season. .
Johnson isn’t the only Virginia native to commit to the Cavaliers from the 2023 class this summer. Olivia McGee chose UVA over Kentucky Tech and Virginia Tech. We will be back in July. McGee, who is ranked 45th overall in her 2023 class according to ESPN, will play her senior year of high school basketball at her IMG Academy in Florida.

Kymora Johnson and Olivia McGhee will join UVA’s roster for 2023-2024.
