Alabama statement after basketball player Darius Miles charged in Strip shooting

The University of Alabama and its track and field department responded to the arrest of a former Crimson Tide basketball player on Sunday. Darius Miles arrested for murder.

We learned of the recent indictment against student-athlete Darius Miles. He was expelled from campus and is no longer a member of the Alabama men’s basketball team.

About 10 minutes later, UA Athletics issued the following statement:

“First and foremost, my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of last night’s incident.

“I learned of the recent indictment against student-athlete Darius Miles. He is no longer a member of the Alabama Men’s Basketball Team. The Athletics is cooperating fully with the university in this investigation.”

It’s unclear if Alabama coach Nate Oates will meet with reporters on Monday ahead of Alabama’s next game scheduled at Vanderbilt on Tuesday. He’s scheduled to play Vanderbilt in the 30th minute (CT).
