Aliyah Boston wins Honda Cup as top female college athlete

Los Angeles (AP) — South Carolina basketball star Allie Boston was named a college female athlete of the year on Monday night.

She received the Honda Cup at a ceremony at the Galen Center on the University of Southern California campus. Boston coach Dawn Staley won the award in 1991 as a Virginia basketball player.

The Junior Forward is the first basketball player since Breana Stewart won the championship in 2016. Overall, 16 basketball players won the Honda Cup. This is the most common of all sports.

Boston helped host the second National Championship in South Carolina this spring and was the AP Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

Other finalists at the award were senior Joslyn Alo of Oklahoma softball and Trinity Thomas, a Florida gymnast. The top three schools were selected by a vote of approximately 1,000 NCAA member schools, and the winner was selected by the board of directors of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Women’s Sports Awards Program.

“The 2022 Honda Class is a truly extraordinary group of women who have made remarkable achievements in sports and classrooms across the country,” said Chris Fortz, executive director of the University Women’s Sports Awards. “We are excited to join them in the” best and best “elite family.

“We congratulate and congratulate Allie Boston, the winner of this year’s Honda Cup, on the outstanding achievements of being selected as the winner of the Cup, and welcome you to this unusual sisterhood. This is the best in the country. Selected as a Women’s College Athletes. “
