Indianapolis — Antoine Davis scored a season-high 42 points to finish second on the NCAA all-time scoring list behind Pete Maravich on Saturday.
The mark was born when the Detroit Mercy beat IUPUI 89-77.
Davis, in his fifth year of graduation, scored 3,274 points. He passed former Portland State star Freeman Williams, who scored his 3,249 points from 1974-1978. Maravich’s total of 3,667 is the last remaining goal.
Davis also added five assists and extended his Division I record to 521 with eight 3-pointers. That’s five spots short of John Grottberg’s all-time NCAA record of 526 for D-III Grinnell in 2009.
The Detroit Mercy had a career-high 20 points from Daimeji Anderson and 11 points and 5 assists from TJ Moss (8-12, 4-5 Horizon League). Anderson had a 3 for 3 and made a 7 for 7 from the foul line.
