It took a week in less than a year, but Wake Forest is back in the top 10 ranked teams in the nation, and the Demon Deacons have equaled the program’s record.

Saturday’s losses of Mississippi and UCLA were both top 10 teams last week and provided openings, with Wake Forest tying for 10th in the Associated Press’ new Top 25 poll on Sunday.

The Demon Deacons (6-1, 2-1 ACC) received 927 votes, matching Southern California (6-1) in their voting standings. Wake defeated Boston College on Saturday, where he went 43-15.

The Demon Deacons are one of five ACC teams included in this week’s poll.

Clemson (8-0, 6-0) recovered in the fourth quarter at home to remain fifth after beating Syracuse 27-21. No. 16 Orange (6-1, ACC 3-1) has dropped two spots after suffering its first loss of the season.

Just below Orange in the rankings are No. 21 North Carolina (6-1, 3-0 ACC) and No. 24 NC State (5-2, 1-2 ACC). Tar Heels and Wolfpack both had open weeks and didn’t play on Saturday. UNC moved him up one place and Wolfpack dropped down.

No. 15 Mississippi (7-1) dropped eight places after losing 45-20 at LSU. This put the Tigers (6-2) back in the polls for his 18th place.

UCLA also suffered its first loss, dropping three spots to 12th-ranked Oregon (6-1), who defeated the Bruins (6-1) 45-30. The 8th place duck moved up two places from him.

At the bottom of the poll, Texas (5-3) and Mississippi (5-3) dropped out of the rankings. Injury-ridden Oklahoma (6-1) defeated Texas, 41-34, while Alabama (7-1) defeated Mississippi, 30-6.

This opens the door for South Carolina to jump into the rankings for the first time since 2018. The Gamecocks (5-2) won four straight games, including his 24-14 road victory in Kentucky and his 30-24 win on Saturday night. vs Texas A&M.
