Arizona State president: NCAA has not yet interviewed all football coaches in investigation

The NCAA has yet to complete the interview. Arizona Arizona President Michael Crow said the Sun Devils football team is investigating its coaches and staff in an ongoing investigation. of athletic on tuesday.

The football program has been under NCAA scrutiny for at least 14 months with no end in sight. Asked about the potential conclusions of the investigation on Tuesday, Crow said, “I can only hope.”

The Sun Devils have been accused of violating NCAA rules during the recruiting dead period introduced due to the pandemic. This is a ban on direct recruitment contact that lasted 15 months and ended June 1, 2021. An investigation has already led to his dismissal. It includes his five assistants under head coach Herm Edwards, including associate head coach and defensive coordinator Antonio Pierce and offensive coordinator Zach Hill. It also influences the hiring of Arizona State University.

“I know I’m not saying anything outside the office because the NCAA has asked me not to say anything.” I don’t think I’ve interviewed the rest of the coaches yet.”

Edwards, who is entering his fifth full season, recently told reporters he doesn’t think the investigation will be a distraction in 2021, but some players disagreed. Arizona State went 8-5 last fall, but there was a sense around the program that the Sun and his Devils were underperforming. It didn’t help that they were ranked among the worst teams in the nation in penalty yards.

However, this season’s team started pre-season practice in a different spirit. Instead of worrying about which position coach will be forced out, many players are convinced the worst is behind them.

“Had we done this research, we would have moved at unimaginable speed to figure out what was going on,” says Crow. “It’s a process.

Crowe and athletics vice president Ray Anderson have publicly endorsed Edwards in a radio interview. Or you may simply be waiting for a notice of claim from the NCAA. Crowe has never condoned serious rule violations committed by the track and field program under his supervision. And as head coach, Edwards is responsible for what happens with his program.
