Bulls finalize max contract with two-time All-Star LaVine

Chicago — The Chicago Bulls have re-signed Zach LaVine, making it clear that locking two All-Star and Olympic gold medalists for the next few years is a top priority for the off-season.

This is a formal transaction.

The Bulls announced Thursday that high-flying guards had re-signed Ravine after signing a five-year maximum contract last week worth about $ 215 million.

After spending eight seasons in the NBA and five seasons in the Bulls, Ravine said he wanted to open up the market as an unlimited free agent for the first time. When he went shopping, it was a short trip. He announced his decision about 18 hours after the free agent negotiation period began.

“I’m pleased that Zack remains in the Bulls. His work ethic and personality have helped him become one of the NBA’s top players,” said Arturas Karnisovas, executive vice president of the basketball business. Stated in a statement. “We look forward to something better from Zack as he helps Zack lead our team on and off the court.”

The arrival of Ravine from Minnesota as part of the 2017 draft night trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Timberwolves began a rebuilding effort under the former management of John Paxson and Gar Forman. His decision to stay means that the core that led Chicago to the playoffs for the first time in five years remains.

LaVine averaged 24.4 points in the final season of $ 78 million in four-year trading. He made his first playoffs and the Bulls lost to Milwaukee in five games in the first round.

It wasn’t an easy season for Ravine. He dealt with thumb injuries early on and was in and out of the lineup for the last few months due to frequent treatment and eventually a left knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery in May. ..

However, Chicago took a big step, led by Ravien, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic to win 46 games. The Bulls have set a record for seven years and are trying to develop it further in the next season.

In addition to maintaining Ravien, they added depth to the backcourt and front by agreeing to deal with veteran guards Goran Dragic and Andre Drummond to help the team take the next step.

Dragic, 36, signed a $ 2.9 million one-year deal last week. The team hadn’t announced his deal as of Thursday night.

Dragic shot an average of 13.7 points and 36.2% in 3 points over 14 seasons in Phoenix, Houston, Miami, Toronto and Brooklyn. From Slovenia, he formed an all-star team in the heat during the 2017-18 season to help him advance to the 2020 NBA Finals.

Dragic scored an average of 7.5 points, shooting 25.4% over last season’s arcs in Toronto and Brooklyn. The Bulls ranked fourth in the NBA with a three-point accuracy, but this was their last attempt.

The Bulls announced the Drummond signature on Wednesday.

Two-time All-Star and four-time rebound champions spent a strong second half in Brooklyn last season after being traded in a deal that sent James Harden to Philadelphia. It averaged 11.8 points and 10.3 rebounds in 24 online games. Drummond has averaged 13.8 points and 13.3 rebounds in 10 seasons in Detroit, Cleveland, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia and Brooklyn.
