Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2022 NBA Draft, will miss the entire 2022-23 season, the team announced Thursday. Holmgren suffered a Lisfranc injury to his right leg.

“We are disappointed in Chet, especially given how excited he was to be on court with his teammates this season,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. said. “We know Chet has had a longer career than him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community. was his determination and focus.I hope that same tenacity will carry him through this..the time we will work together and support him during his rehab.”

Holmgren played at Jamal Crawford’s The Crawsover Pro-Am in Seattle last weekend and was defending LeBron James at the rim at one point. He landed awkwardly and tried to drag his leg down the court. He left the game after that play, and moments later the entire event was called off due to condensation on the court.

This is obviously disappointing news for both him and Thunder. Holmgren impressed on both ends of the floor at the Summer League games in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, adding to his excitement for his eventual NBA debut.

In his first game in Salt Lake City, he dropped 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks. In his three games with Vegas, he averaged 12 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 2 blocks. Admittedly, the readings from Summer League stats are limited, but his ability to affect the game in so many different ways is exactly what the Thunder want him to be his second pick overall. That’s why I was so eager.

Heading into the draft, one of Holmgren’s few concerns was about his body. I had doubts about whether it would hold up. Some may use this injury as proof that they were right, but be aware that this is a fluke play and that landing on someone’s feet under the basket can happen to anyone. please.
