Class of 2024 IU basketball 5-star target Liam McNeeley plans to take an official visit – The Daily Hoosier

2024 Class Forward Liam McNeely has been playing at the Nike EYBL circuit for a year, but you can’t tell by just looking at him.

McNeely, a top 15 five-star prospect at the Montverde Academy next year, will be one of the most coveted national prospects in his class due to his combination of shooting ability and ball handling. -7 frames, basketball savvy, tough approach to the game.

Indiana has been pushing McNeely since early spring and they are currently one of the schools that are currently pursuing him most hard in his recruitment. Interest is bi-directional, and McNeely told Day Reef Roger this week at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina, that he plans to use one of his third grade official visits in Bloomington.

What wants him to use one of those visits at IU?

“They showed that they really liked me,” McNeely told Day Leaf Rouger. “They reach out after almost every match.”

McNeely says he talks best with Mike Woodson’s head coach and Brian Walsh’s assistant. He has nothing officially scheduled with anyone yet, but Indiana said it was one visit he intended to take. Currently, this is the only school he will definitely visit, but due to the academic appeal of California schools, he has added Stanford as another hit location.

When it comes to Indiana, McNeely doesn’t know much about the program — that’s the purpose of the visit. But he knows it’s a hotbed of hoops, and it’s guided by someone who knows what it takes to play in the NBA.

“It’s a very historic basketball state, coach Mike Woodson, he’s been in the league longer than I’m alive,” McNeely said.

“He (Woodson) just told me to keep pushing my game. He loves my diversity. He’s been in the league for a long time, so obviously he plays professional style. I am. “

McNeely said he will pay close attention to Indiana’s playing style during the season when Montverde alums Jalen Hood Sifino and Malik Renault are active.

Texas products are an interesting prospect when it comes to adapting him to the system. He calls himself a point forward, which is easy to see when looking at his actions this week. McNeely is a good passerby who can drive effectively with either hand and rarely force action.

Indiana needs to show how it can fit into what it wants to do. He and his Montverde classmates are important in the sense that if all goes well, they could establish a pattern of products from the elite national program going to IU. Hooded-Sifino and Renault. Indiana also offered the prospects of Montverde in 2024, Derrick Queen and Asa Newwell.

But the first step in Indiana is to make a strong impression when McNeely comes to campus when she’s in third grade. He has already visited several schools in Texas locally and understands what is important to him. What is he looking for in IU?

“Relationships with coaches, how they play me. It’s hard to understand now because I’m young, but I’m trying to play at the Next Next (NBA) level, so I’m paying attention to that (play style).

The Nike EYBL Peach Jam to Friday McNeely stats line is:

  • 12 p, 10 r, 8 a, 3 s, 1 b, (4-10 FG / 1-4 3 FG)
