Cleveland Cavaliers to be shorthanded Sunday night vs. Timberwolves, sources say

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland Cavaliers are missing three members of their regular rotation, including a pair of starters, in Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Sources told cleveland.com that Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade – all three of whom are suspected of being in the game – will not play.

With Mitchell and Allen out, Cavaliers coach JB Bickerstaff is again forced to change his starting lineup. Barely used Lamar Stevens and regular sixth man Kevin Love move into the starting group, sources say, with Evan Mobley shifted to center and Caris Lebart as his original shooting guard. Mitchell, who was scheduled to play his first game against former Utah teammate Rudy Gobert on Sunday, landed awkwardly late in the game after hurting his ankle in Friday’s 106-101 loss to the Golden State Warriors. . He was then seen limping around the locker room.

Allen has been dealing with ankle pain in recent games. The Cavs have managed his time and workload at various points, and while Allen has played through pain, the team will travel to Milwaukee for the highly anticipated Eastern Conference showdown. It felt best to give him a long break with a few days off before he faces one of the league’s title contenders on Wednesday night.

Wade was discussing knee discomfort with training staff after Friday morning’s shootaround in the Bay Area. But sources say early signs are that Wade may have bursitis in his knee.

“This is the NBA and 82 games is a lot of games,” Bickerstaff said before the game. “That’s what matters and we keep telling you guys at some point, you’re going to try that. It’s a matter of what you do and whether you take advantage of it. I Our peers are committed to it, and in moments here and there, everyone contributes in some way.”
