Oklahoma 5, No. 4 Virginia Tech 4

The bottom of the order promoted Oklahoma to Virginia Tech.

Jack Nicklaus, Brett Squire and Kendal Pettis each scored two hits, while Nicklaus and Squire scored four out of five Snurs runs. Pettis had two RBIs.

Oklahoma led 5-0 to the bottom of the sixth, but defensive mistakes almost cost Sooners. In the sixth inning, Virginia Tech’s Cade Hunter made a defensive mistake, and Carson Jones hit a two-run home run with two batters.

In the seventh, Tanner Shovel reached a slow error with two outs and Jack Harley hit a two-run bomb.

But it’s as close as what Virginia Tech got. Trevin Michael came to the rescue of winning pitcher Jake Bennett (7 IP, 1 ER, 8 K) and defeated the first four batters he faced. After Nick Bidison jumped into the center, Suners right fielder John Spykerman played the day with a diving catch and ended the game.

Game 2 of the Best of Three Series will take place on Saturday noon in Blacksburg, Virginia.

No.8 East Carolina 13, No.9 Texas 7

East Carolina and Texas combined 7 home runs and 28 home runs with the Pirates victory.

Bryson Warrell, Jacob Sterling and Alec McCalevic each hit an East Carolina home run and ended the game with five home runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Wallel added 4 hits and 4 RBIs, and Jacob Jenkins Cowart added 4 RBIs.

Murphy Sterry hit a longhorns homer, and Douglas Horde III and Ivan Melendez also hit homers respectively.

The ECU led 5 times later, 7-2, before Texas started its comeback and cut the Pirates lead to 8-7 at the top of the 8th inning. Makarevich ended the threat with a dive stop in 3rd place.

After flushing the leather, Makarevich led in a solo home run, and Jenkins-Kawart later hit a two-run double.

Game 2 will take place on Saturday noon in Greenville, North Carolina.
