Clemson scored a 3-3 win against struggling Boston College for most of the second quarter before the Tigers scored their first touchdown of the game in the final minute of the first half to win 31-3. From there, they gave in and held Washington State scoreless on his next eight possessions, ending the game. Travis Dye paved the way offensively with 149 rushing yards and a touchdown on his 28 carries. Utes on Saturday, which he lost 42-32 at UCLA, could give USC their toughest test yet.
Outside the top 10, North Carolina State overcame a quarterback Devin Leary loss to beat a spirited Florida State team 19-17. The Wolfpack outscored the Seminoles 16–0 in the second half, with Leary sidelining his arm with a sling.
