College football scores, rankings, highlights: Ohio State, USC among top-10 teams to cruise in Week 3

Week 3 proved to be a big moment for college football’s top 10 teams. No. 7 USC was Lincoln Riley’s first season as he beat Fresno State 45-17 on Saturday night and improved his 3-0 with a strong all-around offense. Quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns, while running backs Travis Dye and Austin Jones each scored a touchdown and went over 100 yards on the ground. Riley’s strong start to his tenure marked his USC first time scoring at least his 40 points in his first three games of the season since his 2005 when the Trojans faced Texas in the national championship. It’s a record.

Fresno State star quarterback Jake Hayner had to be forced off the field early in the third quarter after injuring his leg when he was dismissed by USC’s Solomon Byrd. At the time, the Bulldogs were just 21-10, but losing his West performer to All Mountain proved to be an insurmountable loss.

USC’s show was impressive, but Saturday’s best offensive outing for a Top 10 team belonged to No. 3 Ohio State. The Buckeyes totaled 763 yards (second-most in school history). and scored 36 first downs in a 77-21 win over Toledo. Quarterback CJ Stroud threw his five touchdowns and Emeka his trio of receivers Egbuka, Jaden Ballard and Marvin Harrison Jr. each surpassed his receiving by 100 yards.
