College Hoops Team Breaks Record With 111 (!!) 3-Point Shots, Not One 2

Grinnell College set an NCAA men’s basketball record on Thursday night, and it was utterly ridiculous. Really, almost immeasurable.

The Pioneers didn’t attempt a single two-point shot the entire night. In doing so, Grinnell attempted 111(!!) three-pointers. This is the highest number ever.

A small Division III school in central Iowa doubled over opponent Emmaus Bible College to win 124-67. Of the 124-point score, 120 were over the arc and the remaining 4 were on free throws. The Pioneers shot 40-of-111 from the field and he shot 51.1% from the field in the second half.

While their 40 3-pointers were successful, very He came close to an NCAA record, but fell just two short of the 3-0 from the 42 he made against Emmaus in 2018. Poor Emmaus…

Grinnell operates a very unique system based on Loyola Marymount head coach Paul Westhead’s 1980s offense. It was tweaked by his David Arsenault in Iowa and his son David Arsenault Jr. is now the head coach running his father’s system.

Grinnell College shoots, shoots, shoots more.

Its philosophy is based on quick shots, offensive grass crashes, and constant, relentless full-court presses. Three-pointers were the priority and Jack Taylor made history in 2012 when he scored 138 points in a game.

It also led to 2022 history. Grinnell did something no one had ever done before.

“It’s something I’ve been wondering if it’s possible for probably the last 10 years. Just how does it work, is it actually feasible to do this across the game? What other benefits can you think of playing a game where you could only shoot 3-point shots?” Arcenaut Jr. said. Tommy Burch of the Des Moines Register“It was certainly an interesting experiment.”

I didn’t inadvertently hit the 3-point line, or unknowingly hit or forget a quick two-point shot after securing an offensive rebound. It was an all three, all game.
