Connecticut Sun 72-63 Chicago Sky: Connecticut through to WNBA Finals after late comeback | NBA News

Jonkel Jones had 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Connecticut Sun overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Chicago Sky 72-63 in the decisive fifth game of the semifinal series to advance to the WNBA Finals Did. .

Connecticut scored the final 18 points of the game to overcome a 63-54 deficit with 4:46 remaining.

All of the Sun’s starters scored in double digits, and Connecticut advanced to the Finals for the third time overall since 2019.

Connecticut will face the No. 1-seeded Las Vegas Aces for the WNBA title. The first game of the series is Sunday in Las Vegas.

Chicago were looking to become the first team to repeat as WNBA champions since the 2001-02 Los Angeles Sparks.

The Connecticut Sun will face the Las Vegas Aces.

Jones scored on the inside to put the Sun ahead with two minutes remaining and then hit the ensuing free throw to take the lead by three points.

Natisha Hiedeman tied the game on a transition layup with 2:24 remaining as Connecticut cut the deficit in the fourth.

A Courtney Williams pull-up jumper with 47.5 seconds left gave the Sun a five-point cushion, and Dewana Bonner knocked down four free throws to put the game out of reach.

Connecticut outscored Chicago 25-5 in the fourth quarter, recovering from a dismal third period in which they scored eight and turned the ball more than seven times.

Kahleah Copper led Sky with 22 points on 8/19 shooting. This included her 3 of 5 from range and added 4 steals.

DeWanna Bonner added 15 points, Hiedeman added 14 points, and Williams and Alyssa Thomas each added 12 points.

Emma Miesmann, who scored 14 points on 6-for-14 shooting and six rebounds, gave Sky an 11-point lead with 7:20 remaining.

In the first half, the Sun continued their ferocious shooting in Game 4, making 56.9% of their shots. However, that slowed down in the third quarter as Sky’s defense tightened.

Candace Parker filled in a three-pointer and Copper continued with a three-point play, giving Chicago a 10-point lead and finishing in fourth place.

However, Chicago’s shot went cold and Sky missed the final eight shots.

Parker finished with 7 points and 9 rebounds.
