San Diego (2-2) kicked off Friday’s game (2-2) for Mountain West against Boise State, and defensive lineman Keshaun Banks knows what to expect.

“They have a mobile quarterback, a good running back, a decent (offensive) line, and talented skill players,” Senior said. “They’re a good attacking team, but it’s nothing new they’ve never had to face each other.”

The Aztec defense rose to their occasion 17-14 win over Toledo Saturday, but SDSU are still trying to sort out their offense, from an inexperienced offensive line to quarterback Braxton Burmeister.

Head coach Brady Hawke admits Burmeister didn’t always make good decisions. But his run on San Diego State’s desperate final drive against Toledo made the difference for the Aztecs.

“You’ll see what he’s bringing to the table with that Scramble. Now we want to hit some of these things a little more with our engineered execution,” he said.

As for injuries, Hawke said Chance Bell is likely to return for the 5 p.m. game in Boise and Patrick McMorris is likely to return. But Jayron Armstead is in doubt.

Meanwhile, West Hills High School alumnus Jack Browning was named MW Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the first such honor for him.

In the kicking game, Browning made his only field goal attempt (50 yards in his career) and went 2-for-2 in the PAT. Walk-ons also saw him punt nine times for 364 yards (40.4 yards average), and long he went for 56 yards.

Another piece of good news for Browning is that he received a scholarship after Sunday’s practice.
