in less than a week,
golden state warriors
You enter the ring ceremony not as a joyous and unbeatable champion, but as a team in danger.
“This is the biggest crisis I’ve ever had since I’ve been coach here,” said the head coach.
Steve Kerr
said Tuesday.
And most of this catastrophe
draymond greens
Vicious punches of younger petite teammates,
jordan pool
The crisis is also a result of the repercussions from that act of violence, including how the Warriors responded.
“Any criticism we face here is fair,” Kerr said.
And oh, they face criticism.
Greens are uninterrupted.
Instead, he took a one-week timeout from the team. he will be fined. The amount will be kept secret. It is not known if Green has undergone any form of compulsory counseling.
he didn’t answer the question
when he spoke on Saturday. Green joins the team on opening night.
So, a week off, an unspecified fine for a player who has made about $132 million in his career, and a big hug from Commissioner Adam Silver on Tuesday.
“Our team is not perfect,” Carr said, adding that he and general manager Bob Myers “have definitely made mistakes over the years. Based on our experience, we believe this is the best decision for our team.”
I’m not here to tell the Warriors what punishment is appropriate, but they told me myself. They suspended Green from the game in 2018 for an altercation with Kevin Durant.
Suspension of Jordan Bell
In 2019, he charged assistant coach Mike Brown’s hotel bill with scented candles. In 2017, Chicago’s Bobby Portis was suspended for eight games after punching teammate Nikola Mirotic in the face. In 2019, Miami’s Dion Waiters received a six-game suspension for partying instead of practicing.
Suspensions will be granted for serious violations. Green is no longer a hot-tempered kid who doesn’t know how the NBA works. He’s an adult, a father, a husband, a self-proclaimed team leader, and a role model. He should be able to handle the stop gracefully. But clearly the Warriors are concerned that Green is so fragile even at his 32-year-old that a suspension could blow their relationship to the point of no return.
The Warriors usually walk eggshells around the green, but this time it comes at a price. Green’s actions and subsequent slap on the wrist hurt the credibility of a team that was largely irreproachable.
The leaked video means that even with Green’s attempted apology, no one can guess what happened. At first, Kerr said he had seen a lot of games in his 32 years, but then reversed course and told young players that this was “not normal.” No,” and former NBA players like Tom Tolbert have never seen a hit like that.
Kerr was outraged by the leaked video,
It might have been easier than lashing out at Greene directly. I don’t know how the video leaked, but the Warriors had to consider the possibility that someone on staff was fed up with Green being allowed his transgression, which was downplayed at the press conference. After hearing the “quarrel”, I wanted to clarify it.
I have a question from an avid fan. The pride of having a player that “everybody hates but wants to be on the team” is weakened. Warriors fans aren’t sure if they want Green on their team. I’m confused as to why a team I love would disrespect a player even though it hurts. About how a culture of joy can coexist with unpunished aggression.
The Warriors are about to walk a tightrope. They know they are unlikely to compete for the championship
This season
Without Green — they don’t have enough replacements — and they don’t want to rob the team of that opportunity by keeping his fragile ego away. We must not lose the trust of the young players who will lead the future of Japan.
“There are a lot of young players here and they don’t know him,” Kerr said. “Draymond has to build a relationship with them.”
The most important of them is, of course, the pool. Kerr said Poole and Green have had one-on-one conversations in recent days, with Poole agreeing with the team’s decision.
“I think that’s part of why we’re going this way because we know he’s fine,” Kerr said. “We know he’s willing to move forward. He’s basically going to get back on the floor with Draymond and go to work.”
Poole’s voice carries the most weight here. We haven’t heard from him until Monday, when the team is likely to announce a surprising contract extension. If so, the power and importance of the pool will rise as Green’s power wanes.
A slap on the wrist for Green doesn’t mean life will be easier for him. His credibility as a leader and mentor has taken a serious hit. His teammates and coaches will never be able to fully trust him again. His status is down and his future with the Warriors is likely sealed. He has a player option for next season, but his value — which has been far more for the Warriors than any other team for a long time — has been seriously damaged.
That may be the real punishment for Green. Worse than a suspension or fine.
He is no longer the heart of the Warriors.
