Eilert Named Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Morgantown, West Virginia – Josh EilertHas spent the last 15 seasons on Mountaineer basketball staff, including serving as an interim assistant coach in the 2016-17 season, and has been appointed as a male basketball assistant coach at West Virginia University. Bob Huggins Announced today.

Eilert will move to coaching roles after serving as an assistant athletic director for basketball operations. He moved to staff operations in 2013 after spending his first six seasons under Huggins as a video coordinator.

During the 2016-17 season, Eyelet was the interim assistant coach. During that time, he was in charge of on-court scouting, off-campus recruitment, and working with WVU wing players.

Eilert replaces Erik Martin, who was recently appointed Head Coach of the South Carolina Men’s Basketball Program.

In 2021, Eilert was named one of the Top 50 Notable Division I Support Staff by SilverWaves Media.

“Obviously, Josh has been an integral part of Mountaineer basketball for the last 15 years,” Huggins said. “He has a great basketball background as a player, in basketball management, and as a coach.

“Josh was a successful junior college basketball player in Kansas, so he can pave the way for new hires. Kansas has some of the best junior college basketball leagues and players in the country. He has many. I’ve run camps and clinics in. I’ve met many coaches in and around West Virginia. He’s very well suited and can do a great job for us. “

He came to WVU from Kansas State University in 2007 and was a graduate assistant at Kansas State University under Huggins from 2006 to 2007.

Since arriving in West Virginia in 2007, the Mountaineers have won the 2010 Big East Championships and have won 10 NCAA tournaments, including the 2010 Final Four and five NCAA Sweet 16.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity to take on the role of assistant coach here in West Virginia,” Eyelet said. “I’ve been a Hall of Fame coach for the last 15 years and have been patiently waiting to get back to bed. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Coach Huggins, Coach (Larry) Harrison, and Coach (Ron). I hope Everhart, and certainly Coach Martin and his family, will be the best in South Carolina.

“I am excited to continue to build relationships on the recruitment trail while expressing this wonderful condition on and off the floor. I would like to return to the floor to help post-player coaching, scouting and training.”

While in Kansas, Eyelet assists coaching staff in the daily interior of a basketball program, including self-scouting and opponent scouting, on-campus recruitment coordination, movie exchanges, travel arrangements, and special projects. After transferring from Cloud County Community College, Eilert played two seasons of basketball at Kansas State University from 2002 to 2004, serving as a two-year letterman and a one-year starter.

He was the first senior team to be the Team All Big 12 Academic Selection and was named the Honor Student of the Big 12 Commissioner four times. Eilert received the Keith Amerson Academic Award in 2004. While in Cloud County, he earned the honor of KJCAA Academic All-America as a sophomore.

Originally from Osborne, Kansas, Eilert received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Kansas State University in 2004. She earned her master’s degree in college student personnel / inter-university athletics from Kansas State University in 2007.

Eilert and his wife Brandi have two sons, Brendan and Tristan, and a daughter of Emri.
