The Empire 8 had a successful run at the 2023 NCAA Convention in San Antonio, January 11-14. The league passed his two sponsored legislative proposals, and St. John Fisher’s Jack Mulvihill won his NCAA Top 10 Award of the Day.
On Wednesday, January 11, Mulvihill received a prestigious national award as one of the ten outstanding senior student-athletes for the 2021-22 school year. He is his second Empire 8 student-athlete to win this award.
Originally from DeWitt, New York, Mulvihill majored in inclusive adolescent education with an impressive 3.95 grade point average. He has earned the prestigious honor nine times for recording his GPA of at least 3.75 and was a mainstay on the Empire 8 presidents list. Carrying his academic excellence into graduate studies, he earned his 4.0 in the 2021-22 academic year, and for the second year in a row he earned the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men’s At-Large Academic All-America honor. won. He was also a 2021 USILA Scholar All-American.
Mulvihill also served as Co-Chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board at St. John Fisher’s Campus from 2019-2021. He also participated in the Empire 8 SAAC and from 2020 he was the conference delegate for the NCAA Division III SAAC until 2022. Mulvihill was his SAAC representative on the Division III Management Council, discussing issues important to Division III student-athletes with university presidents, athletics coaches and his leaders in various communities.
On Saturday, January 14, Empire 8 launched Proposition #3 – Mental Health Distress Waivers and Proposition #7 – Composition of the Chairman and Management Board was passed at the NCAA Division III business session.
