Some notes:

  • The incoming national rankings turned out to be incredibly good. Looking at the top 31 teams (the 30 teams ranked and his 31st team with the most votes (Oregon St)), his 30 of them made his NCAA. The only casualty ranked was #28 Furman, who was the first team and was replaced by Texas. And the unranked teams knew they had to get out of South Central before the day started.
  • The BYU women ranked 6th nationally, but only finished 6th at the Mountain Regionals. However, he still had enough points to qualify for the NCAA.
  • Cal Baptist (CBU) has spent the last five years transitioning from Division II to Division I. During that time, he was ineligible to compete in the NCAA. This is their first year as a full-fledged Division I school and now they are participating in the first NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship.
  • Northwestern University earned NCAA status for the first time since 2002.
  • Utah Valley is the first to qualify for the NCAA.
