Five reasons to be optimistic about Iowa basketball in 2022-23

In recent years, the Hawkeyes have relied heavily on one or two players to handle much of their scoring load.

Luca Garza Standing at the top in the junior and senior seasons, Joe Wieskamp I was by his side. Last year, Keegan Murray He was one of the most dominant players in the country, averaging over 20 points per game.

The number of scorers was around those three, but there weren’t many who consistently scored in double digits or mid-teens.

This winter may be different.

Iowa may not have a proven shooter in the last few years, but the Hawkeyes have a wide variety of weapons on the offensive floor that can score basketball in a variety of ways.

Chris Murray He will be used more as a scorer this year. He’s not exactly the same player as his brother, but he can score just as well, turn his back to the basket from the post, or turn his head up as a passer. .

Patrick McCaffery sees an uptick in the scoring division. McCaffery is an aggressive scorer who isn’t afraid to attack the rim or his outside shots. He has shot his 33 percent this year with a 3 batting average. If his offseason progress can get him closer to his 40 percent, that would be huge for this Iowa offense.

Tony Perkins After being off the bench for most of the year, he was thrown into the starting line-up later that year and showed that he could get the ball in the basket in many different ways. Perkins is more of a slasher, but he can also consistently knock down 15-foot jumpers and hit deep balls when needed.

Peyton Sandfort A year ago it was known as a knockdown shooter. He’s one of the most confident scorers on this team, and while he can score three points from just about anywhere, he’s expected to show he’s playing a more balanced game this year. I’m here.

Philip Rebraca You can’t average double-doubles, but Fran McCaffrey said he expects Lebraca to show more attacking play this year. Rebraca was primarily an insider defender a year ago, but he can be a little more ranged this year.

Conor McCaffrey Though he is never known for his scoring, he can knock down perimeter shots and clear space on the floor. Josh Dix When Dasonte Bowen Two freshmen who Hawkeyes highly values. Aaron Uris You can also get on the rim from the dribble.

There are many ways Iowa could get into the scoring division. It starts with his four men mentioned at the beginning, and this team has, in place of forcing opponents to key in he one or he two major scorers, has had a number of goals over the last few years. Another element that was not present is given. Iowa now has three or four of him. With contributors who can hold their own as well.
