The letter is addressed directly to Dr. Robinson and explains some of the main issues the team has with the university. They range from timely financial aid payments, academic support and compliance, summer school accommodation and meals, representation to the Athletic Director Search Committee, and ticket allocation to players’ families.
The FAMU disqualified 26 players in the game against North Carolina, the team said, due to poor academic advice and compliance. The Rattlers put up a good fight before he won 56-24 with Tar Heels behind. The team said it was “damaging” to the locker room to see unqualified players vilified at meetings.
“Reading in various media outlets that ’26 FAMU football players have been ruled ineligible’ has seriously damaged the morale of our football team,” the players wrote. “This story implies that we are not performing in the classroom. It is a procedural matter in legal advice.”
Despite having so many players down, the team chose to play against North Carolina. However, the Rattlers said they did so for everyone else who supports them, not the university. The players will kneel for their alma mater after the game and intend to do so until the issues outlined in the letter are resolved.
“On Friday, after much discussion within the team, I decided to play for UNC,” the players wrote. “We don’t play for this organization, we play for our family, our teammates, our classmates, our loyal fan base and the coaches who prepared us and loved us. A teammate suffered a season-ending injury.After the game, we decided to protest the performance of the Florida song and FAMU alma mater Marching 100. Between both songs Get down on your knees…we don’t sing songs that start with “College of Love and Charity…” when we feel neither from this college. ”
Florida A&M turn their attention to their next opponent. Jackson Statestarting Sunday, September 4 at 3:00 PM ET.
