Golden State Warriors veteran forward Andre Iguodala returning for 19th NBA season

Andre Iguodala Returning to play his 19th season in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, the veteran announced Friday morning on his “Point Forward” podcast.

His return fill is the team’s 14th roster spot heading into training camp. According to Iguodala, this will be his final season.

“I’m going to blame some people,” Iguodala joked about his decision. I blame Raymond. [Green] and clay [Thompson]. Steve [Kerr] Bob Myers, I think they showed me a lot of love. They helped me understand my existence outside of physically playing basketball, but I think Steve was the big culprit of “we really need you on the court.” Draymond also played a big part in that regard. “

The Warriors secured Iguodala’s roster spot throughout the offseason and tried not to pressure him to make decisions. Warriors general manager Myers said he didn’t get a deal over the summer that made the team feel the need to quickly acquire Iguodala.

Iguodala said he was “retired for most of the summer,” but decided to return after speaking with his teammates, Warriors staff and family.

Last season, Iguodala averaged 4 points, 30% shooting, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds in just 31 games. He missed all but six games between January and the end of the regular season with various injuries, then a month of the playoffs with an injury to his left cervical disc. But for the Warriors, Iguodala’s role extends far beyond the court.

“He does a lot off the court and he does a lot on the court,” Myers said at a press conference Thursday. “And it’s really hard to find that kind of stability and leadership in the team he brings. Even for Steve and me, I get to talk to Andre. He’s really smart. I know our team. He’s a true professional. “He understands the league. He’s seen a lot of games. I don’t know how many times he’s been to the Finals. It’s crazy.” He’s the person you want by your side.”

“I’m looking forward to playing, but I’m playing. [Jonathan] Cuminga, Moses Moody‘” Iguodala said on the podcast. Don’t let me stand on the court. “

Iguodala said he returned to Golden State last year to help the team win its fourth title in eight years and solidify Curry’s legacy. The Finals MVP told his teammates they needed him again.

“I’ll let you know, Steph,” Iguodala said, staring straight into the camera. “This is the end.”
