Group of Devils Compete at ITA Fall Regionals (Update 9/25)

Fredericksburg, Va. – The Dickinson women’s tennis team fielded a select group of players at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Fall Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday (9/24)
doubles

After losing on Friday, the pair of Fierro and Goyz rebounded on Saturday to beat the pair of Franklin & Marshall by a score of 8-6 in the Consolation Bracket of the ‘championship’ draw. They then fell to the Swarthmore duo in the final.

In the ‘Blue C’ Consolation Bracket, Desjardins and Steele claimed the title with two wins on Saturday.

Goitz lost to Averett Universtiy’s Brenda Poulakidas in the ‘Blue D’ bracket final by a score of 8-7 (7-4 in the tiebreaker).



Friday (9/23)
doubles

In the ‘championship’ bracket, the red and white pair Martine Fierro When Ariana Goytz He will face Christopher Newport University’s Megan Bauer and Anna Campbell. The Devils fought tough but made an 8-6 decision.

“Blue C” in brackets Isy Desjardins When Alisa Steele He was overtaken by Haverford’s Centennial Conference athletes Annie Barrett and Surya Krishnan by a score of 8-5.

Fierro was invited to the singles ‘championship’ draw, where she beat Salisbury’s Katherine Temesis 6-0, 6-1 in the first round. She then took to court later in the day for her second round against Izzie Koziol of Washington and Lee University. Unfortunately for Martine, she could only take 2 her games as she lost her 6-1, 6-1.

Goitz entered the “Blue D” bracket and defeated Salisbury Sea Gull (Zeca Eze) 8-4 in his opening match before knocking out Lynchburg College’s Ashley Hair 8-6. With her win, she advances to tomorrow’s ‘Blue D’ finals, where she will face Brenda Her Poura Kidas of Averett University at 1pm.
