Hellenthal joins SIUE men’s basketball staff

Veteran coach Ryan Hellenthal will join the men’s basketball staff in June 2022 as Director of Player Development and Basketball Management.

Hellenthal started his 21st year as a college coach at SIUE this season and has extensive experience at every level from NJCAA to NCAA Division I level. Most recently, he served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Hawks for a year before heading to Division II Quincy College where he spent five seasons as a coach, with the Hawks finishing his 32nd in the NCAA Tournament. The team finished as one. 2016-2017.

Helenthal spent two seasons as an assistant in Central Missouri from 2014-2016, contributing to a 25-7 record and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2014-15.

Prior to that, he spent four seasons on the staff of head coach Dan Monson at Long Beach State University, first as director of operations and then as assistant coach. While he was in Long Beach, the 49ers won three Big West regular season his conference championships, including his participation in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. He also served as director of operations at Boise State University from 2008 until 2010, when he served two seasons.

Hellenthal spent six seasons as an assistant coach in the NJCAA Kansas Jayhawk conference from 2002-2008. From 2005 until 2008, Hellenthal served as NJCAA Hall of Fame Coach Jay Herkelman’s Assistant He Coach and Recruitment Coordinator at Coffeyville Community College. He helped the Red Ravens to a 90-19 combined record during his tenure as an assistant coach and two trips to the national tournament, finishing third in 2007 and seventh in 2006. From 2002 until 2005, he worked as an assistant coach and recruitment coordinator at Garden City, Kansas, where he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, alongside Barone.

In 2005, the Bronxbusters won the Kansas Jayhawk Conference title for the first time in over 50 years. During his time in Kansas, Hellenthal helped put over 20 players into the NCAA Division I ranks, while also coaching nine All-Jayhawks in his conference selection and two of his NJCAA All-Americans. and recruited.

Helen Thal graduated from UIC in 2002 and is a member of the National Basketball Coaches Association. Hellenthal is single and lives in Edwardsville.
