How a wild Tuesday night just made the Big 12 a lot more interesting

After a turbulent Tuesday in the Big 12, the conference standings are tied three-way. Here’s how it happened.

No. 13 Kansas State Beats No. 2 Kansas in OT Thriller

It took overtime, but the Kansas State Wildcats were able to beat their in-state rival, No. 2 Kansas, 83-82.

No. 13 Kansas State had a 14-point advantage over the defending national champion in regulation, but a 38-point performance by Jalen Wilson put the Jayhawks back at it. There were five lead changes during overtime, and the team that converted on the final offensive possession earned the win. KSU’s Keyontae Johnson grabbed the final bucket of the night with a world-shaking alley-oop.

Johnson finished the game with 24 points and eight rebounds. Desi Sills matched the Wildcats team with his 24 points. Outside of Wilson, Kansas had big contributions as he had 17 points from KJ Adams Jr. and 16 from Grady Dick.

With the win, the Wildcats are tied with Kansas and Iowa for first place in the Big 12 with a 5-1 record.

It won’t be long before these two teams face off again. This time Kansas will get home-court advantage on his January 31st.

No. 12 Iowa flees No. 7 Texas

It was a victory the whole team could be proud of Tuesday in Ames, Iowa. Four different Cyclones scored in double digits as Iowa State defeated No. 7 Texas 78-67.

Jalen Holmes (21 points), Caleb Grill (17 points), Gabe Karcher (16 points) and Osun Osny (11 points) all scored in double figures to power the backbone of the Cyclone offense. Texas also put together a team-wide effort with four players scoring his double digits.

Big 10 Thrillers: No. 3 Purdue escapes upset bid in Michigan

It won’t be easy for either of these teams, as the Big 12 are hotly contested in competition. The Cyclones will face Oklahoma State on Saturday and Kansas State next Tuesday, and he could dominate the No. 1 spot in the Big 12.

Texas travels to Morgantown on Saturday, January 21st to face West Virginia next.
