How Stephen Curry is replicating his 2016 MVP run and threatening his own 3-point record with absurd start

Stephen Curry’s 2015-16 unanimous MVP season has an almost mythical place in NBA history. It’s hard to put into words how incredible he was that year. It was more than a brain-exploding number. It was all an experience. The shots he regularly made were almost arrogantly easy, shots that no one else had yet thought of, and moments in history that many, myself included, felt would never be repeated. It was made for

But more than a quarter of the way into the 2022-23 season, Curry is pushing his limits. There’s still a long way to go, but when he started playing Monday night, he’s putting up practically the same numbers that Golden State made when he pulled off his record-breaking 73 wins.

If anything, Curry’s numbers so far are actually better than he did in 2015-16 when he made an NBA-record 402 3-pointers with an absurd 45% shooting percentage. It will be difficult for him to surpass his 402 points this season. He has already missed two of his games and is on pace to see him play in 74 to 75 games this season, compared to his 79 in 2015-16.

At that rate, Curry would finish the season with around 390 maid 3s. That’s not far from the 402. He’s likely to play fewer games this season, yes, but his shooting style and Crunch’s Golden State numbers as the season begins make it at least plausible he’ll go Make up the scenario. Nuts enough to surpass what has long seemed like an unbreakable record.

In fact, Curry has been doing pretty good across the Stats Board from 2015 to 2016. His assist percentage is up slightly. Slightly lower turnover rate. he bounces. Greatly improved defense. The free throw rate and percentage are the same. Everything from the rim finish, paintwork and midrange efficiency has been greatly improved. With a current shooting split of 51-44-90, Curry is on his way to becoming the only player in history to record a 50-40-90 season, joining Steve Nash and Larry Bird.

The only thing that’s gone down from the 2015-16 assault on the NBA record books is Golden State’s total wins and the nightly plays that come with it, but that could change.of Warriors I’m starting to find their footsteps. On Saturday, Curry and Andrew Wiggins became the third teammates ever to make at least eight of his 3-pointers in the same game. Klay Thompson is making more and more games that remind us of the shooters of yesteryear. Draymond Green is doing his job. Jordan Poole has made 12 of his 3 shots in the last 21. Anthony Lam is making a difference. Jonathan Kuminga and Donte DiVincenzo are similar and could be stabilizers for the second unit. Kevon Looney rocks.

The point is, Curry isn’t going to do this virtually alone forever. Will join.
