Husker volleyball to start season as nation’s No. 1 team | Volleyball

The Nebraska volleyball team starts the season in first place.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association released its preseason poll Monday afternoon, with the Huskers taking the top spot.

Nebraska was recently ranked #1 at the beginning of the 2019 season. The last time the Huskers were ranked No. 1 to start the season was before the 2016 season.

The top five teams in the poll are Nebraska, Texas, Wisconsin, Louisville and Minnesota.

As expected, the top vote was close as defending national champion Wisconsin graduated with three All-Americans, while Nebraska and Texas each added a few top players through transfers or freshmen.

The Huskers scored 1,538 points in the poll, just 10 points ahead of Texas and 99 points ahead of Wisconsin. Nebraska got his 24 of his 64 first-place votes. Texas had the most with 27. Wisconsin had 12 and Louisville had 1.
