Iowa’s Caitlin Clark reaches 2,000-point mark in 75th game

Iowa Hawkeyes junior guard Kaitlyn Clark Tied Former Delaware Star Elena Delle Donne Fastest reaching 2,000 points in Division I women’s basketball this century.

Clark scored 20 points in Wednesday’s 92-54 victory over Dartmouth in Iowa City, Iowa. This gave Clark his 2,013 points in his 75th game of his Iowa career.

The No. 2 pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft and two-time 2019 league championship and league MVP, Dele Donne surpassed 2,000 points in 2012 in his 75th game at the university.of chicago sky and now Washington Mystics.

Clark said after handing out his shoes to young fans in the arena. “She sent me shoes specifically for Lyme disease. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Clark and Delle Donne are the fastest women to reach 2,000 since the 1999-2000 season. The NCAA has not confirmed whether this is the earliest since the start of her NCAA Division I era in women’s basketball, which began in the 1981-82 season.

Delle Donne finished her collegiate career with 3,039 points and placed ninth in the NCAA Division I Women’s Rankings.Former Washington star Kelsey Plum (3,527), the 2017 No. 1 pick in the 2022 WNBA title Las Vegas AcesPlum and Delle Donne are one of 13 female players to score 3,000 or more during their NCAA era.

Clark is averaging 27.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists with the No. 13 Hawkeyes (10-3). She led Division I in points and assists average last season. Her single-game career-high was her 46 points set last season against Michigan, and her current season-high is her 45 points set against North Carolina State on December 1.

Clarke is the fourth Iowa woman to reach 2,000 points and the seventh in Hawkeye women’s and men’s history.her teammate, super senior Monica Chinano11 points away from reaching 2,000.

“It’s a very special achievement,” said Iowa coach Lisa Bruder, who called a timeout to celebrate the Hawkeyes after Clark crossed the 2,000-point mark on a 3-pointer with 7:53 left in the second quarter. “I felt like this was a game where I could burn time out and celebrate someone who really deserves to be celebrated.”
