Jamie Erdahl, new “Good Morning Football” host, began as an KFAN intern

Jamie Erdahl was in Breck’s junior year when he joined his internship at KFAN. She had a sports itch that had to be scratched.

“I don’t know if you knew what it meant to have a career in sports television,” Eldahl said. “All I knew was that I really liked talking about football and I really liked talking about sports. I almost failed.”

She screened a call for “The Chad Hartman Show” and really enjoyed the whole sports talk vibe. She enjoyed watching adults joke about sports.

“What happened to me back then?” said Eldahl.

She’s a big fan of sideline reporting royalty Michele Tafoya, who is also well known in the field and has followed her career closely. The day Tafoya arrived at her KFAN to join the show, Erdahl was ready to answer questions during her internship.

“I showed up early to catch the last hour of the show she was doing,” Eldahl said. Why is this girl chasing me? “

“I had the means that this is the moment I should take advantage of.”

Erdahl didn’t just fix the sport. The Bloomington native was laying the groundwork for his success as a sports reporter. She attended St. Olaf’s and played basketball and softball before transferring to American University where she earned a degree in broadcasting and communications.

“Expanding yourself from being just a sideline reporter to being a studio host is a skill once you have it, nobody can take it away from you.”

Her career includes New England Sports Network, where she worked at Boston Red Sox games, and CBS Sports Network, where she was a sideline reporter during SEC football and basketball games and was part of March Madness coverage. increase. It was Eldahl who tried to interview North Carolina’s enthusiastic coach Hubert Her Davis on March 27, after the Tar Heels advanced to the Final 4 with a win over St. Peters.

But after spending the last eight years at CBS Sports, Erdahl has taken a big step forward. Last month, she was named the new host of her NFL Network’s wildly popular show, Good Morning Football. Other hosts will also dress up in costume and role-play while providing the latest NFL news. A mix of sports and humor works. Earlier this year, GMFB won a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Studio Show.

Erdahl landed the gig on July 11th. Three days later, she left Twin Cities for New York with her husband, her Sam Buckman, and her family, including her two daughters, ages 1 and 3. She debuted on July 25, when she replaced Kay Adams. She wasn’t necessarily looking to change careers, and she hopes to have an occasional stint at CBS Sports in the future. But who would she turn down the chance to cover the NFL?

“Personally, it was a job title,” Erdahl said. “Expand yourself from being just a sideline reporter to being a studio host. Once you have the skills, no one can take it away from you.”

What’s more, about 20% of NFL players come from the SEC, the most from any conference. She already knows part of the league.

“That’s insane,” she said with a laugh. Every time I pick someone, I pick an SEC representative. The other host is Kyle. [Brandt]Pete [Schrager] and Jason [McCourty] “No, your point of view is great.”

Erdahl sounded perplexed in a recent phone interview. He was seeded after working at the Twin Cities radio station, from intern to sideline reporter to host of a popular daily football show.

“It’s crazy for me,” she said.
