Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are putting on a show

Following and covering your team on a daily basis will help you dig deep and mine gold nuggets. The downside is that sometimes the forest is missing when looking at the trees. So sometimes I like to take a step back and appreciate the obvious. Example: Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown play basketball very well and are a lot of fun to watch.

Captain Obvious approves this message. However, it is by no means taken for granted. If you look around the league, there are a lot of teams that are about to hit their prime, trading entire rosters like this for his two stars.

Let’s take a look at some great qualities. Both players developed aggressive games scoring on all three levels. They do it in different ways, but not so much as to get in each other’s way (not easy, as both are essentially wings). Both have worked hard at managing the ball and finding open teammates. Both are very strong defenders and know how to play their part within the defensive scheme. Both are quietly taking on more leadership roles on the team, largely within the framework of their own personalities, but are also slowly stepping out of their comfort zones.

Jalen typically takes the lead in the first quarter and softens by driving into the defense’s teeth. Tatum takes that extra space and punishes the team from deep inside. Tatum then flip-flops by hitting the front of the rim or kicking it out to Brown, who fires a dagger from the depths. Try to take one aspect of him out of their game and they’ll quickly adapt and attack in a different way. And when they really start doing it, they dictate action.

This is the next level thing we need to achieve together over the years. It takes two advanced thinkers with a tireless work ethic and a burning desire to be the best in their craft. It takes a lot of pride to know you can be the best, but not enough ego to think you can or should do it yourself. You also need to trust your teammates and let them shine in your role.

I’ll admit, this is all a very obvious easy achievement. But sometimes we miss what’s right in front of us. We often say that this team will go as far as the Jays take them. Well, so far it looks like they can take this team a long way. It’s not about
