Jayson Tatum starred in Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes’ podcast “All the Smoke”, revealing something interesting.
Prior to the NBA Draft, Tatum’s agent called and told him that the Boston Celtics exchanged their picks, moved to third place, and wanted him to train with them. Tatum had the idea that he would already go to Phoenix after visiting the coaching staff, hanging out and touring the city. Tatum’s Statement:
“No, I don’t want to go to Boston. I like it here in Phoenix. The weather is nice … I want to go to Phoenix.”
Without Tatum’s mother and his college coach (Coach K), he wouldn’t have attended training with Boston. He said Coach K told him, “Brad Stevens is a great coach and he will learn a lot,” which changed his mind. Imagine what the Phoenix Suns would look like without these two. Tatum should have been able to partner with Devin Booker. The box office revenues of the two who could have turned the franchise around.
