Jemmott, Kraker Tabbed CUNYAC Nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Indianapolis, Indiana – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced 151 conference-level candidates in the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Awards and all three outstanding basketball categories. Chanel GemotAnd tennis all-stars, Lauren crackersWas selected as a candidate for the league on behalf of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).

The NCAA Woman of the Year Program was founded in 1991 and celebrates the academic performance, athletic excellence, community service and leadership of female college athletes graduated from all three divisions. To qualify, candidates must participate in NCAA-sponsored sports, obtain a varsity letter, and have a bachelor’s degree by the summer of 2021.

Conference-level nominations are then transferred to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee. The committee selects the top 10 winners in each of the three NCAA categories. The NCAA will announce the top 30 winners on ncaa.org in October.

From these 30 candidates, the selection committee will determine the top three finalists in each division. The NCAA Women’s Athletics Committee selects the Woman of the Year from nine finalists.


The 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the awards ceremony at the NCAA Convention in January. For more information on the awards, selection process and previous winners, please visit ncaa.org/woty.


Chanel Jemmott, Brooklyn College – Women’s Basketball / Softball

Gemot, who concludes his prestigious athletic career at Brooklyn College in the spring, has won numerous awards. In her last season with her women’s basketball team, from Brooklyn, she won the third WBCA Honorable Mention All-American nod, the second consecutive CUNYAC Player of the Year award, and the All-Met Writers Division. Selected as the III Player of the Year. She is with the honor of many other regions. Over the past season, she has become BC’s highest scorer (1,688 points) and highest rebound (1,144 rebounds) ever. She helped the team win its third conference championship in four seasons and win her first NCAA tournament in 2022.

Two athletes, Gemot, played four seasons of softball for the bulldog and regularly started in his career. She finished in the top five of the team with her final season hits.

Gemot, who graduated from a bachelor’s degree in business marketing with a 3.3 GPA last year, is an excellent BC graduate student with a master’s degree in business administration and a 3.8 GPA.

Lauren Craker, Baruch College – Women’s Tennis

Originally from Howland, Ohio, Lauren recently graduated from Baruch at 3.862 GPA with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. Her goal is to become a doctor and follow in the footsteps of her family.

“It is a great honor to be nominated for such a prestigious award and I would like to thank all the opportunities they have given me for this nomination,” Lauren said.

Lauren led the Bearcats to the 2021 CUNYAC Autumn Tennis Championships and played in the spring NCAA tournament. She won the CUNYAC All-Star Award in each of the team’s three seasons. This includes her first team honors for the last two seasons.

Outside the courtroom, she was elected 2021-22 CUNYAC Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This is the highest honor given to CUNY student athletes. Her academic praise also includes a list of deans and being a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) scholar-athlete.

Lauren was also a member of the Bulk Student Athletes Advisory Board (SAAC) while juggling athletics with scholars and continued to find time to give back as he gave tennis lessons at the Yorkville Tennis Club.
