Jordan Travis looking sharp, other takeaways from FSU football camp

Florida — Today is the last day of practice for the week in Tallahassee, and the Seminoles are preparing for a trip to the University of North Florida over the next few days. The team will return for closed scrimmages on Saturday and will rest in the film room on Sunday.

The offense looked pretty clean, with quarterback Jordan Travis at the helm, but the improvements made by the two guys behind him are still there, and they’re looking to build quality depth for the future. It is very important to build a strong quarterback.

The defense had some big plays. Defensive back Jarrion Jones forced a fumble that Jack McLerion later recovered.

Jordan Travis is having a great day

Quarterback Jordan Travis had his best practice day yet this preseason.

Travis started with a big pass to wideout Micah Pitman. Both Pittman and McClain had great days moving their drives into the red zone and scoring points.

*Defensive linemen Jarrett Jackson and Joshua Farmer were able to pressure even a pass to Pitman early in the series.

He showed off his mobility by rolling out of his pocket to the line of scrimmage for one touchdown to Keyshawn Helton and throwing a dart (which was a bit low) to Helton for the score. is ready.

Quarterbacks AJ Duffy and Tate Rodemaker both had good reps today, but Duffy had one throw in particular that stood out.

Duffy looks at the progress diagnosing the defense and on the third read decides to throw the ball before the receiver catches it. The pass was perfectly timed to Kentron his Poitier catch was in his zone and he spun down with a grab. It wasn’t a major play on the drive, but it’s good to see that level of consistency when it comes to timing throws from him.

Offensive lineman Kayden Lyles out this season

Norvell said in today’s post-practice interview that Lyles will miss the rest of the season with an undisclosed injury. was. With that injury, he was expected to contribute this season, so it’s a big hit on the depth chart.

Luckily they are cross-trained and have some depth behind the center position, but these are the types of injuries that hurt the most. is now open.

Wide receiver Johnny Wilson’s good practices

Moving into spring, there were some question marks with Wilson, who actually only showed flashes at times. Now that the Seminoles are on the tail end of fall camp, it’s no exaggeration to say that his improvement is tangible.

One of the best catches of the game came by Travis Wilson, who was mismatched with defensive back Renaldo Green. As the play progressed and he got out, a loud “wow” was heard from the sidelines of the defense.

Wilson took about three steps on the green and was helped across the field by safety Shaiheim Brown. Turning around and looking for the ball, the 6’7 receiver adjusted his speed to match and flew into the air between the two defenders. After catching and landing on a wobble, he headed it upfield to score and prompt the entire team to run up and celebrate.

The day also ended with a catch thrown by Rodemaker. I hope we get to see more of these as they are inherently fun to watch. Roadmakers move their attacks onto the field and find Wilson in the back corner of the end end zone to score Did. Wilson has such incredible height that he can stand there and catch a defender overhead.

The next practice, which can be observed from home, is on Tuesday, August 16 at 8:50 am as Knowles prepares for the Week 0 match against Duquesne on August 27.
