Kareem’s clutch free throws saved the Lakers season on this date in 1988

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated Detroit Pistons 103-102 at home and drew three NBA Finals games each.

The Pistons delayed 102-101, but when Kareem Abdul Jabber tried his signature hookshot, a controversial call was made to Bill Laimbeer. It seems that there wasn’t much contact, but Abdul Jabber answered the phone and calmly knocked down both free throws.

He was 3-14 from the field, but 8-8 in the free throws of the game.

Detroit failed to score and the Pistons had a last chance after Los Angeles missed two free throws, but couldn’t shoot before the deadline expired.

Isiah Thomas was great for the Pistons, even though he sprained his ankle early in the game. He finished with 43 points, 8 assists and 6 steals. He scored 25 points in the third quarter.

Magic Johnson had 22 points and 19 assists for the Lakers. James Worthy had 28 points and 9 rebounds.

The Lakers won Round 7 at Home 108-105. Valuable ones dominated the game, finishing with 36 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Johnson had 19 points and 14 assists.

Worthy was selected as the Final MVP.

The Pistons have recovered from the tragic losses of the next season. They swept the Lakers and won the 1989 NBA Finals.
