More than a month has passed since then brooklyn nets Superstar Kevin Durant has requested a trade just hours before free agency kicks off, but there is nothing to suggest a trade is imminent. There are reports of ‘pessimism’ surrounding the deal for Durant to do in the near future. The Nets are having trouble finding other teams to facilitate the trade, which is not entirely surprising given the high asking price of a player like Durant.
With the start of training camp approaching, it’s always possible Durant will still be a member of the Nets when the 2022-23 season begins.But during a face-to-face meeting in London over the weekend with team owner Joe Tsai, former league MVP he reiterated his stance that he still wants to be traded, according to Shams Charania. Durant’s stance hasn’t wavered at all throughout this process, but a bit of new information also suggests that the two-time champion will also see the Nets form a tandem of him and head coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks. I told Tsai that I had to choose one or the other, per Carania. Durant reportedly doesn’t have “credibility” in the franchise’s direction, and the ultimatum he’s just thrown throws a new wrench into Brooklyn’s plans going forward.
Tsai Reply Monday night By tweeting, “Our front office and coaching staff have my support. We make decisions in the best interest of the Brooklyn Nets.”

The Nets have failed to achieve their championship ambitions in each season Durant has played, and it’s surprising to hear that he’s essentially calling for the dismissal of both Nash and Marks. I initially had support from Durant in the hiring process because of their time together at Golden State. In his two seasons with the Nets, Nash went 92-62 and made the playoffs both years. But Irving said on Durant’s podcast, I don’t think the team has a head coach In terms of leading the team shortly after Nash was hired. Durant agreed, saying coaching could be a “collaborative effort” between Nash, Durant, Irving and even assistant coach Jack Vaughan. You could read that it just wants to be a leader, but that’s not exactly a strong endorsement, right after Nash was hired.
Nash has a back-to-back title, but his coaching is far from perfect. Brooklyn’s defense has been heavily criticized over the past two seasons, and the isolation-focused offense they’ve run hasn’t been his plan in their most successful games. Reports also surfaced that Nash’s coaching style was part of the reason James Harden requested a trade from the Nets. So, while Durant was an early supporter of Nash when he took office, there’s a clear reason why his support has waned.
When it comes to Marks, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what issues Durant has with Brooklyn’s general manager. He made the move to upgrade the supporting cast of Durant and Irving by re-signing Mills. The team also acquires perfectly healthy Joe Harris and Ben Simmons to add even more talent around the two stars.
This new information about Durant is reportedly forcing Tsai to choose between him or Nash and Marks, making the whole ordeal all the more complicated.
