Kyla Ross Promoted to Gymnastics Assistant Coach

After helping the Arkansaw program volunteer to take it to new heights in a season, Olympic gold medalist and NCAA five-time winner Kailaros was promoted to Jim Bucks assistant coach.

“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to remain part of the Arkansas Razorback family. I am very grateful to Jordyn Wieber and Razorback Athletics for giving me this wonderful opportunity to continue coaching in this program and athletic club,” Ross said. Told. “I’m very excited to work with student athletes to help them reach their athletics, academic and personal development goals. Call Hoggs many times this season with Laserback fans. I can’t wait to call you! Woo Pig. “

Upon arriving at Arkansas’ 2022 campaign, Ross was primarily responsible for coaching the gym back on the balance beam. When she led the team to a new program of 49.475 against Florida on January 28, she immediately had a lasting impact on the program.

Beam was Arkansas’ best event for most of the season, with a final ranking of 16th and 8th overall in the regular season. Hogs posted 16 beam routines with a score of 9.9 or higher and won at least 6 share of beam titles in 13 meetings.

Ross’s early success as a coach departs from one of the most successful careers in college gymnastics history. During the four seasons at UCLA, Ross won four individual NCAA titles. He won one for each event and the 2018 team title with Bruins. She is one of only 12 gymnasts who recorded Jim Slam, a perfect score of 10 at each event, and one of the two who recorded two Jim Slams in her career. She was also the first female gymnast to own the Olympic, World and NCAA titles.

The promotion continues the dynamics of Ross Weaver, who has considered them teammates, coaches, athletes, and colleagues for over a decade, from London 2012 to UCLA and now to Arkansas.

“I am very excited and confident in hiring Kyla as my new assistant coach. She has a wealth of knowledge, work ethic and passion for our sport. Her impact on our program is clear and I know she continues to teach our student athletes to be the best students, athletes and people they can. ” Weaver said. “It’s a great opportunity to coach with Olympic teammates and continue to make Arkansas gymnastics together for competitive greatness.”

Arkansas is the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Women’s Gymnastics Program, conducted by Weaver and assisted by Ross and Chris Brookes, the first and only program, all with Olympic staff. Brooks is a two-time Olympic athlete, captain of the men’s team in Rio 2016 games, and ranked 14th in all-round competitions. Weaver and Ross competed together as part of the Fierce Five. Nearly 10 years ago, Fierce Five won the first US women’s gymnastics gold medal in London on July 31, 2012.
