The Lakers plan to waive Matt Ryan, who was on a non-guaranteed deal, and open up a roster spot for trading flexibility once his deal, signed between Dec. 15 and the summer, becomes available for trade. a team source confirmed to ESPN. The Athletic first reported.

Ryan, who has just two minutes of garbage time against the Blazers and has played less than 15 minutes in total since November 11, confirmed the news after the win.
Matt Ryan has confirmed he was waived by the Lakers, but declined to make any other comment about the move, which is formal.

The Lakers’ roster is now 14, and that’s probably always been the case. Ryan was a stopgap solution, a shot in the dark to see if the team had enough defense to floor an ace sniper of his caliber. The answer to that was mostly “no” despite his best efforts.Rotation is something Ryan couldn’t do at all. his clutch hero — it was ultimately always a matter of “when” rather than “if” for the Lakers to cut him to free up a roster spot for the trade or buyout market.
Usually teams line up trades and signs before vacating a spot on the roster, so why would they do that now? I still don’t feel they can judge this teamPerhaps even considering discussing making a deal in two weeks is usually not a reason to cut a player.They don’t legally have to have a roster to discuss an imbalanced deal. Are they just giving Ryan a chance to catch up in a different situation and doing him a favor? Right, guys just don’t want to pay to sit on the bench and cheer? Buddy Hield and Myles Turner trade finally happen? Your guess is as good as mine, but I frown on preemptive moves like this.
