Lakers Rumors: NBA exec says Rob Pelinka is smart for not making trade

of lakers I am not currently in a position of power when it comes to trade negotiations. It’s not a fun realization, nor a particularly fun fact, but a team in Win Now mode that started 3-10 would be treated as a hopeless team in trade discussions.

Opposing teams now see the Lakers as a potential trading advantage as they are looking to get back into contention in some way. Up until that point, Lakers vice president and general manager of basketball operations Rob Pelinka had been firm on not panicking.

in the latest episode of Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix and Howard Beck On the podcast, the latter recounted a conversation he had with Western Conference executives about the Lakers (emphasis mine).

“So here’s a quote from a Western Conference executive I spoke to. He said, ‘Washington is where I keep thinking it’s going to happen. If you’re the Lakers, take Bradley Beal.’ He’s got a no trade clause, he wants to come to California…I’ll give those two picks, but if he asks , say California or Bust or Wizards, Wizards may have to trade less because of the no-trade clause. , it’ll be better than Westbrook and the two picks.I think you’ll get a better offer.Maybe not.The Bradley Beer deal is massive and maybe someone will “franchise it.” I’m trying to keep this massive contract out of your hands for a guy who can’t carry a.Would Westbrook and two picks be enough? If you just want to go to the Lakers, I have a no trade clause and I can steer this thing… That’s the logic presented to me by a Western Conference executive, who said,

This does not excuse Pelinka from putting this roster together or signing a deal preseason. I feel that we have lost the fact that we are a team that has

Pelinka basically stands out for now, feeling the pressure and urgency of having to find a fair deal. That’s the situation he put himself in, and while no one else should be held responsible for this, he’s not actively making the situation worse.

For the rest of the quote, Interesting that Bradley Beal is starting to gain momentum As a name the Lakers are interested in. I’ve seen time and time again how players can dictate where they want to go in a trade, and that’s because they don’t even have a no-trade clause.

Inserting that element into this situation basically means Beal can go to any particular team he wants. There’s nothing specific about Beal wanting to be a Laker, and the Lakers themselves don’t have much time to wait.

So while Rob Pelinka is making the right moves without panicking, the Lakers aren’t getting worse. You can end up in a terrible if, terrible if you don’t.
