Larry Bird’s triple double clinched the NBA Finals for the Celtics on this date in 1986

With Larry Bird’s excellent performance, the Boston Celtics won the Houston Rockets at home 114-97 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The victory ended the series.

Bird and McHale were both great early on, helping Boston jump into the 55-38 lead in half. The rocket couldn’t get it close, and the Celtics cruised for victory.

Bird finished with 29 points, 12 assists, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. He played the game for 46 minutes. No one in Houston could contain him. McHale finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Akeem Orajwon played well and finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 steals, but it didn’t help much. Ralph Sampson struggled and scored 8 points with a 4-12 shot.

Bird was selected as the Final MVP.

It’s the last title in his career and will be Boston’s last title until 2008.
