James was a star football player in high school who was once recruited to the University of Notre Dame. His 1,160 receiving yards in his junior year are still his second-most in the history of the school.
He even considered playing in the NFL during the 2011 NBA lockout. offered a contract By the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks.
With his basketball career coming to an end, he may be seriously considering taking his talents elsewhere.
“If I play sports other than basketball, am I eligible for college? How does that rule work?” he tweeted Saturday.

Flashback: LeBron James says he had two NFL offers during 2011 NBA lockout
James went straight out of high school to the NBA. Since he is a professional basketball player, he cannot go back to school to play that sport.
However, according to the NCAA Division I Manual, “Professional athletes in one sport may represent a member institution in another sport and receive the organization’s financial support in the second sport.”
In 2021, James’ former teammate J.R. Smith enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University and joined the golf team. He was named the school’s Academic Athlete of the Year and earned a 4.0 GPA. He is also on the golf season roster.
