This duo is one of the 577 graduate athletes in Division I, II and III nominated for this award. Schools recommend athletes for awards, and meetings select up to two people from each school. The preliminary list will be narrowed down to 10 people from each department, for a total of 30 people. The Woman of the Year Awards, founded in 1991, recognizes “a female student athlete who has run out of qualifications and is outstanding in community, athletics and scholarship throughout her college career.” This year’s candidate class coincides with Title IX’s 50th anniversary.

The 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year will be selected at the NCAA Convention in January 2023 in San Antonio, Texas.

Among the candidates are 50 aquatic athletes, 46 swimmers and 5 water polo players (one from the University of California, San Diego). Ciara Franke, Do both).

Some of the most notable candidates are:

  • Thomas, a 500-free NCAA champion and a controversial transgender woman throughout the season.
  • Forde, a graduate of Stanford University who won the silver medal at the 800 Freestyle Relay of the Tokyo Olympics.
  • Sara bacon, Five NCAA Champion Divers at the University of Minnesota
  • Delaney Schnell, University of Arizona diver who won the US silver medal in the 10-meter sync at the Tokyo Olympics
  • Emily Sweet, Bentley Immers Nominated for Honda Inspiration Award
  • Krill heart Kenion’s Honda Award Finalist Division III
